(New York, NY–June 3, 2019) High Tech High School’s French Club visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, leaving Liberty State Park via ferry, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech.
Once docked on Ellis Island, the club explored the National Museum of Immigration’s artifacts, a testament to the sacrifices that people made to gain better lives in America.
Topping the day, the premier symbol of our country as a welcoming land, the Statue of Liberty, also commemorates the long-lasting friendship of the United States and France, and during the same week that memorializes the 75th anniversary of D-Day, that friendship serves as a reminder of how both countries continue to shape world history.
“French Club members are always encouraged to expand on their knowledge of French culture and its impact,” says Dr. Laje Gashi, veteran French teacher at High Tech and moderator of the French Club, “and it was important for them to know that a grand example of this, the Statue of Liberty–and Ellis Ellis, for that matter–is simply located right across from Hudson County.”
