High Tech‘s Anna Czykier Receives HCIAL Scholar/Athlete Award

(Kearny, NJ—June 1, 2016) Senior Anna Czykier of Kearny has been selected for the 2016 Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League (HCIAL) Scholar/Athlete Award, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.
Czykier received this honor at Senior Awards Night, held in the auditorium at Kearny High School.  An exemplary track and field athlete, she holds personal records in the following events:
55mH (in) – 10.62
100m – 13.34
200m – 27.36
400mH – 1:04.78
400m (in) – 1:01.30
400m – 58.4
800m – 2:20.46
5k (xc) – 22:07.60
Besides this, Czykier has maintained a 3.715 cumulative GPA at High Tech, despite the great difficulty of leaving High Tech in North Bergen and arriving to practices in Kearny on time. “I’m, like, 40 minutes late every day,” she says. “The team has already started doing workouts by the time I get there.  Sometimes, I jump in late, but others I have to work out by myself.”

Head coach Al Perez understands her dilemma well and always allows her some slack.  “I think it takes a special commitment on her part,” he says with pride.
