HTHS Freshman Interviews Stars of In the Heights at Film’s Premier

(Secaucus, NJ––June 16, 2021) Avery Ramsey, a freshman in High Tech’s Musical Theater program, scored opening-night interviews with the cast and director of hit Broadway musical and newly released film, In the Heights, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.

Avery, who is a member of the Tribeca Kids Access Press Team, was on the scene for the film’s opening at the 2021 Tribeca Festival. Here, she spent some time with the film’s Director, Jon M. Chu, as well as leading lady Leslie Grace, who plays Nina Rosario in the film. Avery also scored an interview with Gayle King, co-host of CBS This Morning who offered some perspectives on the story.

This is not Avery’s first time interviewing major stars. As a member of the Kids Access Press Team since she was eleven years old, Avery has interviewed performers such as Broadway’s Kate Rockwell and Angie Schworer, as well as activists Tamika Mallory, who organized the 2017 Women’s March, and numerous other actors and artists.
Of this experience, Avery said, “I was so pumped to be interviewing for opening night of the Tribeca Festival and it just so happened that In The Heights was kicking it off! I am a huge fan of Broadway and lots of the cast, so figuring out what questions to ask was super fun.”

She added, “This time it was extra special and a little nerve-wracking because in order to get these interviews, I had to actually call out to the celebrities and try to get them to answer a few questions before they quickly continued on the red carpet.”

In the Heights explores the struggles and dreams of three characters living in the largely Dominican neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. In the Heights was also a Broadway show with music and lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a novel penned by Quiara Alegría Hudes.
