HTHS Represents at Teen Arts Festival 2021

(Secaucus, NJ––May 18, 2020) Three High Tech High School teen artists––Ramier Villarama, Sierra Jenkins, and Emma Fernandes-Santinho––earned Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, respectively, at the 2021 Hudson County Alliance of Teen Arts Expo, announced Dr. Joseph A. Giammarella, Principal at High Tech High School.

Working with veteran Fine Arts instructors Bill Kennon and Erik VanZanten, the students honed their artwork to showcase as representatives of the arts program at HTHS for the annual Hudson County Alliance of Teen Arts Expo.

Gold medal winner Ramier Villarama is a senior at HTHS who plans to attend Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN, next fall. Ramier plans to major in Environmental Studies and, after taking Mr. Kennon’s Art Survey class, is now considering double majoring or minoring in Art & Art History. Silver medalist and fellow HTHS senior Sierra Jenkins will be studying Fashion Business Management at FIT next fall. Bronze medalist Emma Fernandes-Santinho is a sophomore in the Academy for Design & Fabrication at HTHS.

The Expo, which is in its 36th year, has moved to a virtual setting since 2020, but still adheres to strict guidelines for determining the winning pieces. For visual artists, students’ work is judged on technical proficiency, originality, and emergence of a personal vision throughout the piece.
