Musical Theatre combines acting technique, dance choreography, music & voice theory as well as theatre production to bring a complete performance experience to the focused learner. Classes explore human and social conditions, performance skills, audition technique, text analysis, theater history, technical theater, culture, the concepts of community teamwork through the performing arts.
Studying Musical Theatre helps develop transferable skills: creativity, leadership, responsibility, analytical and critical thinking, self-confidence, attention to detail, discipline, and perseverance; all of which are highly desirable in business and other fields.
This award-winning program is currently part of Papermill Playhouse’s Adopt-A-School Program through 2017 which includes guest workshops, field trips, performances and showcases with some of the top professionals in Musical
John Zisa holds a BA in music performance and an MA in theatre Studies/directing. John has taught music and theatre and has directed award winning high school theatre productions throughout the state of NJ since 2006. John performed professionally prior to teaching as both an actor/singer and musician, starring in regional theatre and cabaret productions, and performing in his own concerts throughout the metropolitan area. He also appeared as a semi-finalist on Season 4 of American Idol.
John is affiliated with the Miss America Organization, where he co-hosted and performed at the Miss New Jersey pageant for 6 years, before turning to directing the pageant for the past 5 years. John is a published composer and still enjoys performing when he has the opportunity. As the head of the Musical Theatre department at High Tech, John feels lucky to be able to work with some of the most talented students in the state of New Jersey.
