(Secaucus, NJ––June 14, 2021) Thirteen High Tech seniors who completed a dual-enrollment program were conferred the degree of Associates of Science in Environmental Studies from Hudson County Community College (HCCC) at a virtual ceremony on May 20, 2021 and a Grad Walk at HCCC on May 27, 2021, announced Dr. Joseph A. Giammarella, Principal at High Tech High School.
The degree ceremony marks the culmination of four years of study for eleven Environmental Science and Sustainability Academy students and two Design and Fabrication Academy, who coupled college-level coursework in their high school classes with after-school courses from HCCC to earn the requisite credits to graduate. The students who have earned their A.S. degree will now have the potential benefit of finishing college more quickly, thus enabling them to pursue post-graduate studies or enter the workplace sooner.
This is the second year of HTHS graduates to complete high school with an Associate’s degree through the dual-enrollment program at HCCC. The dual-enrollment program is overseen by Dr. Chris Conzen, Executive Director of HCCC’s Secaucus Center, HTHS supervisor Samantha Doria, and HTHS instructors (who are also HCCC adjunct professors) Dr. Shelly Witham, Ms. Cathy Yuhas, and Mr. William Goold.
The 2021 graduates of the dual-enrollment program at HTHS representing the Environment Science and Sustainability Academy are: David Agedulo, Fiona Bezhani, Mary O'Brien, Johanna Damaghi, John Dec, Kate Neal, Diane Zaragoza, Al Sessa, Kareen Rhaburn, Jennifer Diaz, and Aaliyah Rodriquez. Representing the Academy for Design and Fabrication are Devin Buegermeister and Leslie Moreno.
