At High Tech High, a unique project has brought together creativity, technology, and practical skills. Students Astrid Diaz and Hazel Glinoga, under the guidance of Mr. Bolich in their Simulated Manufacturing Work-Based Learning class, have crafted a bespoke coffee table for the school's main office waiting area. This project is a testament to the school's commitment to hands-on learning and real-world applications of classroom teachings.
Astrid and Hazel embarked on a journey that began with measuring the space and ended with a beautifully designed piece of furniture. They used state-of-the-art software tools like AutoDesk Fusion 360 and Aspire to design their project. They then used a CNC machine to turn the design into a physical object. The result is a stunning table with an acrylic and epoxy resin top, supported by a solid white oak base.
The generous donation of materials made the success of this project possible from Eastern Millwork, an industry partner of Mr. Bolich. Additionally, the support from Ms. Young, who allowed the students to exercise their creative freedom, was crucial.
This project not only provided a functional piece for the school but also enriched the educational experience of the students involved.
