High Tech High School senior Julio Journett, a student in the D|Fab Academy Welding Technology program, recently earned recognition at the 2026 UTI-Bloomfield Welding Tech Challenge, placing seventh overall in the competition.
As part of his achievement, Julio was awarded a $1,000 educational grant from Universal Technical Institute to support future technical training opportunities. The competition brought together talented high school welding students to demonstrate hands-on welding skills, technical knowledge, and craftsmanship.
Julio’s accomplishment reflects the dedication and technical ability he has developed through High Tech High School’s Welding Technology program. The competition also highlighted the growing demand for skilled trades professionals and provided students with exposure to career pathways in welding and advanced manufacturing.
The D|Fab Academy at High Tech High School continues to provide students with real-world, career-focused experiences that prepare them for both industry and postsecondary education opportunities. Programs such as Welding Technology emphasize hands-on learning, industry-standard practices, and workforce readiness.
“We are proud of Julio for representing our program and school so well,” said Gregory Simon, Supervisor of the D|Fab Academy at High Tech High School. “This recognition speaks to the hard work our students put in every day and the strength of career and technical education opportunities available to them.”
Julio competed alongside students from across the region and was recognized during the UTI-Bloomfield Welding Tech Challenge event.
