(Secaucus, NJ––February 2, 2020) High Tech Robotics Team 7994—LaserHawks have earned a place at the FIRST Tech Challenge NJ State Championship, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal at High Tech High School.
While Team 7994––LaserHawks struggled to earn consistent victories throughout the season, it was their character and values that earned them a place in the state championships. Team 7994 earned the Inspire Award, which is given based on a team’s “gracious professionalism,” according to FIRST Tech Challenge. These students, in addition to their hard work in creating a competitive robot, were deemed exemplary for displaying the FIRST values of teamwork, professionalism, positivity, inclusivity, and professionalism. Earning this award moved the team into the qualifying pool for the NJ State Championship.
“Congratulations to all of the students, and a huge thanks to the HCST administrators and our community mentors for their support,” said Mrs. Alba Simon, Robotics Coach.
Team members Lucas Agudelo, Arjun Athaye, Youssef Bousada, Lyna Bacha, Lorena Darwiche, Gerson Diaz, Yousef Idrissi, Kevin Li, Alexandra Monti, Alan Orriols, Nathan Mintos, Katherine Moreira, Matthew Neissen, Andrei Leiva, Kush Poddar, and Katherine Ren––along with coaches Mrs. Alba Simon and Mr. Harry Peles––have already begun preparing for the upcoming state championship which will take place on March 15, 2020, in Maplewood, NJ.
