(Secaucus, NJ––January 11, 2022) High Tech senior Christopher Martinez will play the character Hurley on the upcoming Nickelodeon series Warped!, announced Ms. Kathy Young, principal of High Tech High School.
A musical theater major at HTHS, Christopher began acting around age 5, when he and his brother—HTHS alum Sebastian Martinez—started interviewing child celebrities for their YouTube channel. This project sparked an early passion for being in front of the camera, which led Christopher to pursue acting. He has since landed several roles on television, including the shows Blue Bloods and NYC22. Prior to landing the role of Hurley for Warped! Christopher was in the Disney+ film Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Taking on the role of Hurley will be Christopher’s first season-length project.
As Hurley, Christopher plays a character who works at the OK Pizza shop in the same mall as the Warped! Comic Book Store, where he hangs out with his friends, Milo, Ruby, and Darby. According to Christopher, Hurley is a genius in his own mind who is always trying to invent something at the pizza shop that’s going to make him rich and famous—and he’s also always there to protect his friends and help them in the most important situations. In Chistopher’s words, “It was so much fun getting to know and portray Hurley!”
Christopher credits High Tech’s musical theater classes as a way for him to work on his craft during the school day. Outside of the musical theater classroom, Christopher credits accommodating academic teachers and supportive friends who helped him balance his scholastic and professional endeavors. Although he has been focused on filming Warped! for much of this school year, he looks forward to the HTHS Musical Theater presentation of the new Broadway hit, Waitress, for this year’s upcoming Winter Showcase.
Warped! premieres on Nick at 7:30 PM on January 20. You can learn more about the show’s cast and characters by visiting this link or you can view a promo of the show here.
