A group of High Tech Students recently competed at Premiere Scene, the French Theater Festival of New York, where one student was awarded Best Actress.
Hosted by Lycee Francais of New York, Premiere Scene is an annual French theater competition that has taken place since 1999. The competition brings together more than 400 students aged 10–18 from private or public schools around the world, such as in the US, Canada, and France to showcase their knowledge of the French language and culture through the medium of drama. Students in the competition are tasked with interpreting an existing work or creating an original composition, play, sketch, mini-drama, or comedy that corresponds with the selected theme. This year’s theme was “Beauté” (Beauty).
The three French IV students, led by Dr. Laje Gashi, participated with two plays. One was from Moliere's “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme” and another scene was from Isabelle Mullard. Marieme N’Diaye, Saranya Ganesan, and Renee Goldfinger performed this comedy scene titled “ Esthethique Show” which centered around beauty salons and superficial remedies. One member, Marieme N’Diaye, received the Best Actress award for her role in the piece.
