NPR Feature: HTHS Sophomore, Otys Train

We are proud to celebrate our sophomore Environmental Science student, Otys Train, who was recently featured by NPR while competing in New Jersey’s annual World Series of Birding. Otys and his teammates, known as The Pete Dunnelins, were highlighted for their dedication, teamwork, and remarkable birding skills during the 24-hour statewide competition.

The competition challenges participants to identify as many bird species as possible across New Jersey in a single day, requiring months of preparation, strategic planning, and an incredible knowledge of bird calls and habitats. Otys shared how much time he has spent mastering bird songs and identifying species by sound, a skill that played an important role in the team's success.

Seeing Otys recognized on a national platform is a testament to the passion, commitment, and curiosity our students bring to their interests both inside and outside of school. Congratulations!
