Students in Action Club Lives Up to Its Name at HTHS

(Secaucus, NJ–November 25, 2020) The Students in Action Club at High Tech High School has been busy getting out the vote and supporting their community in spite of social restrictions during the pandemic, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.

In late October, volunteers from the Students in Action Club partnered with NextGen America, a non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing voter turnout, to phone- and text-banking citizens in the area in support of the election. Led by co-presidents Caitlyn Ramdat and Briana Dominici, as well as vice president Natalia Czepielewski and secretary Sarah Dziekan––under the guidance of club advisor Ms. Krystyne Guarente––fourteen Students in Action made approximately 5,400 text messages and 275 phone calls to citizens within the surrounding states to encourage participation in the November 2020 election.

As if that wasn’t enough, on November 7th, twenty-three Students in Action assembled to make and deliver 360 sandwiches to help feed the area’s homeless population. This collective action was part of a sandwich-making drive for the Hoboken Shelter, which serves an average of 500 meals daily.

The students, and their advisor, are incredibly proud of the work they have done––particularly at a time of social distancing and collective uncertainty––and are eager to build on their momentum and continue giving back to their community.
