(Secaucus, NJ––May 11, 2022) Seven High Tech students from Dr. Laje Gashi’s French I & II courses won a suite of medals at the 2022 National French Contest Le Grand Concours, announced Ms. Kathy Young, Principal of High Tech High School.
The National French Contest, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, is an annual competition that tests language proficiency for students learning French in grades 1 through 12. During Le Grand Concours, students are evaluated on their written, oral, and listening comprehension skills. The 2022 competition marked the 87th annual event and brought out nearly 43,000 student participants from all 50 states. Participants competed with peers at similar levels of language proficiency. High Tech’s students competed at levels 1 and 2, reflecting their respective course enrollment.
At Level 1, our gold medal winner was Nur-Fatima Bamba, while the silver went to Amy Hernandez and Amber Seniuk took home the bronze. Additionally, Florence Ria Villa, Romaysse Saidi, Mariam Tanous, Jorge Flores, and Sienna Nemeth-Szerdai were recognized with honorable mentions at level 1.
Our Level 2 gold medalist was Alexander Pereyra. Maya Geller and Daphne Sanchez each took home a silver medal while the bronze medal winner was Brandon Middle-Wong. Level 2 honorable mentions went to Kanaan Guilford, Mouhammad Dia, Bianca Faria, Sophia Crescenzo, Hanna Wilson, Mariam Khalil, Emily Dong, Jadryan Pena, and Kritika Patel.
Dr. Gashi congratulated all of the winners, saying “Félicitations à toutes et tous!”
