HTHS Musical Theater Students in Running for Paper Mill Playhouse Awards

(Secaucus, NJ––May 17, 2022) Three High Tech Students—Christopher Martinez, Hannah Beemer, and Avery Ramsey—have been nominated for 2022 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards, announced Ms. Kathy Young, Principal of High Tech High School.

All three students were nominated in the category of Outstanding Solo Performance. Christopher Martinez, a senior at HTHS, was nominated for his performance of “Raise a Little Hell,” while fellow senior Hannah Beemer was nominated for her work in the piece “Show Off.” The sophomore Avery Ramsey was nominated for her performance of “What Kind of Fool.” In addition to local HTHS bragging rights, the winner will earn a half-scholarship to the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Musical Theater Conservatory taking place at Montclair State University this June and July. Winners will be announced at the upcoming awards ceremony on June 6, 2022, at 7:30 pm at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ.

The Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards are modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards and aim to “encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of New Jersey high school musicals,” according to their website. The Rising Star Awards program offers a range of scholarships and recognitions for students in high school as well as arts educators and opportunities for college-age mentors.
