Our recent visit to one of Drex Corp's current project sites, located in Queens, New York City, led by ACE mentor Vivek Bhadiyadra, gave us a unique opportunity to dive into the complexities of building foundations. As a renowned contracting company specializing in Support of Excavation, Piling, Foundations, and Superstructures, Drex Corp hosted Ms. Vanessa Batista’s After-School Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE Mentorship) Leap Class, along with student counselor Mr. Morrison. Together, we got an up-close look at the intricate processes involved in foundation work.
From deep excavation and dirt removal to the creation of concrete piles reaching depths of 50 feet, students were challenged to connect the on-site operations with the plans, gaining invaluable insights into the day-to-day work that supports the city's towering structures. This hands-on experience brought textbook concepts to life, offering a deeper understanding of the skills and precision required in this critical phase of construction.
